How cells are able to form and regenerate pattern within themselves is a big open question in cell biology, and the unicellular organism Stentor provides a unique opportunity to address this question due to its ability to regenerate after physical perturbation. Although we know that gene expression programs underlie much of regeneration, we do not know how the genes are regulated. Given the role of chromatin modification in controlling important regulatory pathways in other organisms, combined with prior data on nuclear shape changes during regeneration, we expect to see alteration in histone modification during the regeneration process. This position will involve carrying out experiments to test this possibility. Required Qualifications:
