Job Purpose

The Senior Engineer provides technical support and coordination for external design contractors performing electric distribution design work under Master Service Agreements. This role supports both asset work and customer work by reviewing outsourced construction designs for accuracy, safety, and alignment with National Grid standards. The Senior Engineer works closely with MSA contractors, provides technical guidance, and supports the overall quality and consistency of contracted design work.

Key Accountabilities
  • Review MSA contractor design packages for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and adherence to National Grid construction standards.
  • Coordinate with MSA contractors to provide technical clarification on design requirements for customer work and asset work.
  • Identify design issues during review and work directly with contractors to correct or improve design packages.
  • Monitor contractor progress and identify schedule or quality concerns and communicate these issues as appropriate.
  • Assist with developing scopes of work for outsourced design packages and support clear expectations on National Grid processes and requirements.
  • Support contractor training on standards, design updates, tools, and National Grid systems.
  • Support the rollout of STREAMS through contractor training assistance, process updates, and readiness activities.
  • Participate in department initiatives to improve design quality, contractor performance, and workflow efficiency.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal partners including Distribution Design, Operations, Customer, Construction, and Planning groups.
  • Participate in field walks, site reviews, or coordination meetings with internal teams or contractors as needed.
  • Ensure outsourced work complies with safety requirements and documentation expectations within National Grid systems.
  • Support storm restoration efforts by coordinating contractor design work or providing technical support to the field.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Three to six years of experience in electric distribution design, engineering, or operations.
  • Experience working with design contractors or participating in contracted design processes is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of National Grid construction standards, National Grid systems, and electric distribution work practices.
  • Ability to review and provide feedback on electric distribution design packages.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver license with a safe driving record.
