Understanding the Earth processes is of utmost importance in the modern world. We offer curricula in environmental sciences, environmental earth sciences, earth engineering and environmental sustainability and prepare our students for successful and rewarding careers or graduate studies.
Our faculty has strengths in water, soil and air pollution and innovative techniques to study them. Research and education emphasize practical applications, especially in the field. The program uniquely includes a field research station to facilitate research and education.
The department offers rigorous courses that are comparable to the best in the country. Student research is an integral part of the learning experience and provides opportunities for enhanced understanding. Technical abilities and effective communication are emphasized in preparation for successful careers and graduate studies. Small classes provide individual attention to students for enhanced learning. Our students are considered by both industry leaders and graduate programs to be well prepared for their chosen paths.

Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking an Administrative Assistant. Reporting to the Department Administrator Supervisor, this position is a member of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences' team. The Administrative Assistant provides administrative support to the Department by embracing the challenges of achieving department goals and supporting team efforts to grow together in all of its programs, including to the Department's faculty, staff, and students.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- First point of contact for the Department, ensuring effective and efficient operations through a wide range of administrative responsibilities.
- Assists the Department Chair and others with the administration of academic programs and student support.
- Arranges and coordinates events and meetings.
- Prepares and processes payroll appointments and transactions.
- Prepares a variety of business transactions.
- Maintains Department records and information in a variety of formats.
- Interacts extensively with the University community and provides information on the policies, processes, and timelines of the Department and University.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of office administration, organization, coordination, facilitation, bookkeeping, data collection and report writing
- Requires excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks, and to interact successfully with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the University community
