Job summary:

The OPEX Coordinator plays a key role in driving continuous improvement across vehicle manufacturing operations. This position partners with production, quality, engineering, and supply chain teams to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost through structured problem-solving and lean methodologies. The OPEX Coordinator supports the deployment of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma to achieve operational performance goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives across production lines, fabrication, paint, assembly, and final vehicle build.
  • Facilitate 5S, standard work, value stream mapping, and waste reduction projects.
  • Reconcile scanned hours to playbook hours with production supervisors for accuracy.
  • Work with OpEx Manager to identify areas that require time studies and/or kaizen events to improve accuracy and improvements to standard work
  • Conduct root cause analysis to eliminate waste, troubleshoot manufacturing and assembly issues, material flow, and informational inputs that may lead to inefficiencies.
  • Coach and train employees on any specific related OpEx continuous improvements.
  • Help support and develop a culture that promotes operational excellence and continuous improvements.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate the scope of projects and report to upper management with status reports, as needed.
  • Coordinate, monitor, and drive project activities, manage project risks, issues, changes, and resources, and take corrective actions when necessary. Decides and initiates action.
  • Evaluate and close the project, identify and analyze lessons learned, archive project documents, and hand over the project to customer and/or process owner.
  • Participate in Gemba walks and resolve countermeasure issues
  • Participate in production setup and move teams to coordinate tasks and materials
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements (education, experience, travel, physical, work environment):

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 2-3 years vehicle manufacturing experience
  • MS Office software capabilities (word, excel, power point)
  • Computer skills
  • Good math skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interact with others positively and professionally
  • Must possess quality organizational skills and be a self-starter

OpEx Coordinator Qualities

  1. SAFETY: Follow General Health & Safety Rules, ensure safe operating conditions within your area of responsibility and notify coworkers and supervisors of hazardous acts and conditions. Proper use of PPE; use only defect-free equipment. Promote safety in department. Use proper lifting techniques and overheard hoist when needed.   1. INITIATIVE: Actively participate in continuous improvement of our products and processes to better serve our customers and improve the overall profitability of the business unit. Actively seek out work in other areas when current assignment is complete. Make suggestions for improving product quality, processes, safety, and company profitability.
  1. TEAMWORK: Positive working attitude toward other employees; be a team player. Work with others constructively and abide by company policies and procedures. Working together as a team for continuous improvement is vital to ensure the future of the business unit and its employees. Teamwork will be required to be effective in both our daily production assignments as well as special improvement projects.
