The Opportunity with McKinstry

The Lead Systems Engineer provides technical leadership in designing, implementing, and optimizing McKinstry's core IT infrastructure, navigating complex technical challenges to ensure systems are secure, reliable, scalable, and aligned with business goals. The role drives architectural decisions, oversees complex integrations, mentors engineering staff, and partners with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance solutions that elevate McKinstry's technical capabilities and support both current and future operational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership: design, implementation, and optimization of core IT infrastructure - Leading infrastructure projects, guiding solution design, and ensuring systems meet performance, security, and scalability requirements.

  • Navigating complex technical challenges and ensuring system security, reliability, and scalability - Troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, risk mitigation, and ensuring alignment with business objectives.

  • Architectural guidance and governance - Recommending standards, evaluating technologies, shaping long-term infrastructure strategy.

  • Oversight of complex system integrations - Coordinating cross-platform integrations, validating interoperability, and ensuring seamless implementation.

  • Mentoring and developing engineering staff - Coaching team members, providing technical guidance, and supporting skill development.

  • Cross-functional partnership and stakeholder collaboration - Working with business units, project teams, and leadership to deliver high-performance technology solutions that support operational needs.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in systems engineering, with at least 5 years in senior technical leadership roles.

  • 10+ years' experience managing the Microsoft environment (e.g., AD, GPO, Windows Servers, IIS, monitoring, etc.)

  • 8+ years with Azure services (e.g., Entra ID/AD sync, Microsoft 365, Intune, Autopilot, oAuth, permissions, identity, protection, B2B, etc.).

  • 8+ years with automation and scripting tools. (e.g., PowerShell, Python)

  • 8+ years with virtualization (e.g. VMware), SAN (e.g. Pure), and Backup/Data protection (e.g. Rubrik) technologies.

  • Proven experience implementing Zero Trust architectures with multi-factor and passwordless authentication (SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect, biometrics, passkeys, conditional access).

  • Expertise managing integration between cloud and on-prem services and leading infrastructure projects from conception through execution.

  • Demonstrated success providing business continuity/disaster recovery planning and testing.

  • Extensive expertise monitoring system health, performance, service usage, and availability using Microsoft and 3rd party tools.

  • Experienced in regulatory and compliance frameworks with demonstrated success integrating compliance requirements into infrastructure and security projects.

  • Hands-on knowledge of automation and orchestration tools such as Ansible or Terraform is a plus.

The pay range for this position is $110,790 - $190,700 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
