What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking an experienced Electronics Engineer to design, develop and support high

assurance electronic products. Your daily roles and responsibilities will involve:

  • Playing a key role in development, maturation, and deployment of advanced technologies for next- generation weapon systems and support equipment.
  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams of electrical, mechanical, software, systems, and test engineers in the design and qualification of products.
  • Design of FPGA/ASIC based digital and analog circuits, and integration with commercial off the shelf microcontrollers, memories, and peripherals using existing standards-based communications protocols.
  • Collaborating with and advising technologists who work in a lab environment.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite full time in either NM or CA.

Some travel is required for this position (less than 10%, or approximately 5 weeks out of the

year).

Salary Range

$114,000 - $227,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
  • Ability to acquire a DOE Q level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire

The ideal R&D S&E Electrical Engineer candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:

  • Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
  • Demonstrated experience with analog and digital circuit design and analysis.
  • Hands-on experience testing and de-bugging circuitry, with clear mastery of tools such as oscilloscopes, logic/network/spectrum analyzers, function/pulse generators, etc.
  • Proven experience with design and analysis tools (e.g., Matlab and LabVIEW), analog simulation codes (e.g., LTSpice), and HDL simulation codes (e.g.,ModelSim).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:

  • Experience with at least one electrical software tools such as VHDL, Mentor Graphics, ORCAD, Altium Designer, Cadence PSPICE, etc.
  • Experience with cryptography hardware and firmware design.
  • Experience in VHDL, Verilog, C, C++, and/or custom ASIC design.
  • Electrical and environmental qualification testing and documentation experience.
  • Experience in production processes and design for manufacturability.
  • Experience with JMP, MATLAB, or other data aggregation and statistical analysis toolsets.
  • Experience with configuration management tools.
  • Nuclear Weapon and/or Use Control design experience. Or an understanding of the history of the Nuclear Weapons complex.
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams.
About Our Team

The High Assurance Product Realization group develops embedded and ground support equipment in support of high assurance National Security missions. We are a leader for high-assurance National Security hardware, utilizing current and advanced electronic hardware approaches, tools, and techniques in developing information assurance subsystems. These responsibilities span research, design, development, production liaison, and existing product evaluation for Use Control Applications. Our staff develops custom electronic technologies in support of the DOE/DoD Use Control community and specialize in real-time embedded electronic design solutions with emphasis on security and reliability. The team also has a key role in the development, maturation, and deployment of advanced technologies for next-generation weapon systems and information assurance products.

Security Clearance
