What Your Job Will Be Like

Are you a Technical Writer ready to join Sandia and make an impact on critical technical communications? If so, Organization 03241, Global Security and Stockpile Systems Knowledge Management, is currently seeking a Technical Writer and Editor to join their dynamic team!

The selected candidate will provide essential support to mission partners across Sandia Laboratory. One will work independently while supporting technical staff, demonstrating agility in addressing, negotiating, prioritizing, and scheduling multiple requests to ensure timely submissions from authors and content providers meeting partner expectations.

The successful candidate will be an effective collaborator, results-oriented, committed to group success, possess strong analytical skills, and can translate insights into actionable outcomes. They can effectively partner with other Technical Writers and Editors and Information Management Professionals to serve the needs through collaboration and teaming.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:

  • Write, edit, and/or rewrite technical content, including publications, manuals, presentations, and other materials, to effectively communicate technical procedures, research findings, and advancements to internal and external audiences
  • Ensure document requirements are met, and are clear, concise, and understandable to its intended audience, both present and future
  • Work to standard; educate and assist customers and collaborate with coworkers
  • Exercise quality control over documents
  • Interpret and coordinate documentation and communication policies and procedures
  • Facilitate documentation configuration and records management

This position requires regular engagement with classified materials.

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range

$62,400 - $140,600

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • A Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, or a relevant field, plus 3 years' related experience in technical writing and editing; or equivalent experience (no degree +10 years) and achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the job
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire

  • A Master's degree in, English, Journalism, or a relevant field
  • Experience with PRIME, PDM Link, and/or SharePoint
  • Proven experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Developing style guides
    • Supporting technical initiatives and policies
    • Working with classified or sensitive information
    • Compiling and editing presentations
  • Familiarity with configuration management best practices related to information management
  • Advanced experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word)
  • An active DOE Q-level security clearance; or other equivalent active security clearance such as DOD Top Secret
About Our Team

Providing dedicated (matrixed) professional technical writing services to deliver high-quality products, Department 03241, Global Security and Stockpile Knowledge Management, supports various programs within the divisions.

Posting Duration

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
