Summary: The Gallery department is responsible for ensuring the safety of the Museum's collection, visitors, buildings, and staff by maintaining a vigilant presence and enforcing policies. The Gallery Supervisors work as a team to supervise the daily activities of Gallery staff, as well as promote professional development of Gallery Attendants, train the Gallery Attendants in all policies, standards and procedures, and ensure compliance through performance management. The Supervisors ensure that Gallery Attendants are thoroughly acquainted with the security, fire, and safety policies and procedures of the Museum.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:




  • Supervise the Gallery staff on assigned shifts.
  • Prepare the Gallery Staff and Museum for daily operations including giving oral and written instruction to Gallery staff, preparation and distribution of the daily posting schedules for Gallery staff, supervising the daily cleaning of the galleries performed by the Gallery Attendants, Performing Gallery checks prior to opening, unlocking necessary doors, turning on any lights necessary, and making the call the Museum is open for our visitors.
  • Perform closing procedures and ensure the Museum is clear of all visitors, and all entrances and exits have been secured.
  • Inspect the uniforms of the Gallery staff prior to assignments to ensure they are clean and meet Museum policies and standards.
  • Manage the performance management for Gallery staff, including annual appraisals, coaching, and corrective action.
  • Supervise the Gallery staff in their compliance with policies and procedures and the ensure the readiness of the Gallery staff to effectively handle all gallery-related issues to ensure positive visitor experience, as well as safety of the collection, the building, and staff/ visitors.
  • Coordinate and implement the training for all Gallery staff including departmental policies, procedures, practices, and techniques.
  • Assist with the development of and assembly of training materials.
  • Assist the Gallery Manager with recruitment and onboarding of new Gallery staff, including resume review, conducting interviews, and making recommendations of hire to the Gallery Manager.
  • Respond to Gallery Attendant requests and meet with visitors as needed to resolve conflicts.
  • Assist the Staffing Supervisor with Gallery schedules to ensure the needs of the Museum are met.
  • Manage Payroll for all Gallery Attendants and Staff Entrance Attendant. Ensuring payroll is correct, all time off requests have been approved and payroll is completed by the deadline.
  • Conduct inspections of building for safety of visitors and protection of collection.
  • Complete and deliver reports both written and oral.
  • Investigate incidents of damage to person or property and report in writing to the Gallery Manager, Security Manager or the Chief of Operations and Security.
  • Perform duties of Gallery Attendant as needed.


Qualifications:



  • High School diploma required.
  • At least two years of supervisory experience is preferred. Knowledge of security principles, fire prevention, job safety and first aid will be helpful. Must be detail-oriented and able to communicate with the public and staff in a polite and courteous manner.
  • Computer skills are helpful.
  • Must have the ability to train and develop designated personnel.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules and hours, including overtime, holidays, weekends, and evening events.
  • Must be able to provide oral and written reports in a clear manner.
  • Attendance must be reliable and punctual.
  • This is a physically demanding job, requiring the ability to actively move throughout the entire museum campus multiple times during a shift, as well as to support Gallery staff in responding to emergencies by quickly evacuating staff and visitors or moving them to safe locations.

Minimum of Range
: $25.88/hour


Status: Regular, Full-Time (40 hours/week)
