Job Summary and Responsibilities

Job Summary

Acentra Health is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Coder to join our growing team. In this instrumental role within our Medical Coding department, you will play a key part in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of clinical data. You will review medical records to validate the specificity of diagnoses and procedures and support appropriate, optimal reimbursement for hospital and/or professional charges.

This position also involves retrieving and verifying information from medical records while adhering to established coding guidelines, regulatory standards, and internal procedures. Your expertise will help ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency within our Medical Coding operations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Review medical record documentation and ensure that ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes is appropriately assigned and in accordance with established coding guidelines.

  • Abstract and compile data from medical records to support appropriate and optimal reimbursement for facility and/or professional charges.

  • Serve as a backup for designated administrative functions as assigned.

  • Meet job performance standards and achieve all contract deliverables.

  • Assist with job-related tasks, projects, and educational activities as assigned.

  • Perform additional duties as required.

  • Read, understand, and comply with all corporate policies, including those related to HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules.

  • The list of accountabilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other education- and experience-related duties that management may deem necessary from time to time.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certification as a Coding Specialist (e.g., CCS, CPC, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated working experience and knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding systems.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Experience using coding software and related applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Understanding of anatomy and physiology.

  • Ability to interpret and apply medical terminology accurately.

  • Proven ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and manage tasks with urgency and efficiency.
  • Expertise in billing operations, including resolving insurance denials, reviewing provider remittance advices, and managing insurance reimbursements. .
  • Efficient and reliable data entry skills.
  • Knowledge of state-mandated external reviews and independent dispute resolution is desired.

Compensation

The compensation for this role is $23.58 to $29.40 per hour

Based on our compensation program, an applicant's position placement in the pay range will depend on various considerations, such as years of applicable experience and skill level.
