Job Overview & Responsibilities

As an Aerospace Technician on the Payloads team you'll perform work in all phases of launch operations, including installation, checkout, maintenance, repair, fabrication, modification, troubleshooting, servicing, and testing of aerospace systems, vehicles, and support equipment.




  • Support all phases of vehicle buildup and launch preparation, including erection, alignment, fueling, pressurization, control system checkout, ordnance integration, countdown operations, and launch execution.
  • Operate precision machinery and heavy-duty vehicles to support on-base and off-base launch activities.
  • Conduct functional, operational, verification, and preflight testing on airborne and ground systems using specialized test tools, equipment, and control consoles.
  • Troubleshoot and repair structural, mechanical, fluid, hydraulic, electrical, electronic, instrumentation, and range safety systems.
  • Install, modify, calibrate, and perform full checkout of instrumentation and telemetry systems, ensuring end-to-end system functionality.
  • Operate cranes, transporters, and other heavy equipment for loading, unloading, movement, erection, and de-erection of vehicles and components.
  • Apply safe rigging techniques for lifting operations and handle ordnance systems, including disarming devices in case of misfire or malfunction.
  • Utilize advanced engineering tools to perform complex launch site monitoring, control, safety, and maintenance operations.
  • Inspect work against specifications using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators).
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and technical documentation.
  • Operate heavy vehicles (over 2.5 tons) to transport equipment, parts, and assembled products between base locations, subcontractors, and vendors; ensure safe loading, secure transport, and compliance with travel requirements.



This posting is hiring for multiple shifts but will start on 1st shift for training. After training is complete, shift will be assigned based on seniority.



Required Education


High School/GED



Required Years of Experience


Minimum of 4 years of related work experience



Basic Qualifications



  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience in a mechanical/technical role.
  • An Associate's degree or 2-year Technical Degree in a relevant discipline may be considered as equivalent to 2 years of experience.
  • Active DoD TS is required to start. US citizenship required.
  • Ability to:

    • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs frequently.
    • Climb and work at heights.
    • Work overtime, 1st shift (for training) and alternate shifts as required. Shift will be determined by seniority after training.


  • Willingness to travel to other ULA facilities including CA, AL, and customer sites as required (25%).
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation to travel between work locations on a military base (public transportation not available).



Preferred Qualifications



  • Active DoD TS/SCI is preferred. US citizenship required.
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Aerospace Technology
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A
  • Previous experience with:

    • Being a Crane Operator, Crane Director, and/or Move Director
    • Propulsion and hydraulic systems
    • SCAPE (Self-Contained Atmospheric Protective Ensemble) and hydrazine handling
    • Electrical systems
    • Payload integration
