Environmental Remediation Project Manager

The Environmental Remediation Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing environmental remediation programs across McKesson's legacy real estate and operational footprint; supporting the Real Estate Department in minimizing short-and long-term environmental liabilities when acquiring or entering new property and upon request; and working with McKesson Legal Division in development and negotiating environmental agreements with regulatory agencies, supporting responses to environmental claims or demands, and developing strategies to reduce costs and progress environmental sites to completion and closure. This role ensures adherence to federal and state environmental agreements and regulations with a focus on proactive risk mitigation, regulatory reporting, and sustainable practices. Occasional travel may be needed, up to 10% of the time to visit sites, as well as attend internal, agency, and stakeholder meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Compliance Oversight
    • Monitor and maintain compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, permits, and regulatory orders.
    • Negotiate with regulators to minimize regulator reach and cost impacts to the company; identify alternative approaches to meet regulator goals
    • Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and ensure timely submission of required documentation.
  • Program Leadership
    • Manage project teams of consultants and outside counsel. Direct consultant activities. Provide strategic direction. Review consultant and attorney work product for consistency with strategy, technical competency, and alternative analysis.
    • Develop, implement, and continuously improve environmental remedial programs, policies, and procedures.
    • Lead cross-functional initiatives to reduce environmental risk and improve operational sustainability.
    • In coordination with McKesson Legal Division, develop and implement strategy for negotiating limits to environmental liability and response actions and to reduce timeframes to completion and closure of environmental sites.
  • Risk Management
    • Conduct environmental assessments at prospective new acquisitions and build-to-suit sites.
    • Evaluate sites and projects to minimize short- and long-term liability of the company
    • Identify potential areas of non-compliance and implement corrective actions.
  • Reporting & Documentation
    • Maintain accurate records of environmental activities, incidents, and corrective actions.
    • Prepare quarterly and annual environmental reserve summaries and work with McKesson Real Estate Finance, Accounting and Corporate FP&A to communicate known and anticipated changes to the reserve estimates in a timely manner.
    • Prepare internal and external reports, including those required by regulatory bodies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Collaborate with Real Estate, Legal, Accounting, and Treasury teams to align environmental strategies with business goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent and typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience in environmental remedial and compliance programs. Less years required if has relevant Master's or Doctorate qualifications in Geology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.

Preferred Skills

  • 10+ years of experience in performed under a Consent or Administrative Order addressing chlorinated hydrocarbons and dioxins.
  • Strong knowledge of EPA, OSHA, and state-level environmental regulations.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Experience with environmental management systems (EMS).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$132,700 - $221,100
