Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Quality Examiner/Inspector to work on our Construction Quality department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) Desert Site facility with every Friday off.

Perform construction or nondestructive examiner (NDE) quality control (QC) tasks at INL. Perform inspections, tests, examinations, and surveillance/oversight activities validating compliance with customer, engineering, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform inspections to approved inspection plans, specifications and codes.
  • Ensure inspection equipment and tools are within calibration dates and in sound working condition.
  • Maintain detailed records of examinations/inspections/tests.
  • Identify and initiate nonconformance issues.
  • Verify/witness testing is performed correctly, and results conform to the requirements of the contractual specification.
  • Interface with engineers and manufacturing personnel to provide test results and assist in process improvements, as needed.
  • Perform in-process surveillances of complex-wide program work to verify compliance with company quality program procedures.
  • Continue development of skills and knowledge necessary for effective performance.
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to quality engineering staff in NDE [Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), Visual (weld) Testing (VT)] application of inspection discipline and technique.
  • Civil Inspector will perform verification of compliance with plans, specifications, codes and standards for concrete construction, steel erection, groundwork, earthwork and architectural installations.
  • Coatings Inspector will perform verification of compliance with plans, specifications, codes and standards for all phases of the work which affect the performance of the coating system.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Level 3: High School diploma or equivalent and at least 4 years direct/relevant professional experience.
  • Level 4: High School diploma or equivalent and at least 6 years direct/relevant professional experience.
  • Meet requirements under MCP-13425 and/or MCP-13426.
  • Obtain and maintain all required job-related exam and position qualifications.
  • Maintain INL Basic Inspector qualification and activities.
  • Qualify and maintain the INL Civil Inspector Qualification per MCP-13426.
  • Qualify and maintain qualifications for specific methods of examination/inspection/testing.
  • Knowledge of the safe and approved methods of soil preparation, asphalt, concrete, and grout installation.
  • General knowledge and understanding of items listed in MCP-13426 Appendix A.
  • Become certified as a Level II NDE examiner in two or more of the following NDE methods per MCP-13425 and/or MCP-13426: Visual Examination (welding), Liquid Penetrant Examination, and/or Magnetic Particle Examination.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Preferred:

  • American Association of State Highway and Transportations Officials (AASHTO) Certification.
  • American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Experience.
  • Research Council on Structural Connections (RCSC) Experience.
  • Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) Experience.

Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 3 ($30.17 min - $49.78 max) / Level 4 (360) ($35.30 min - $58.23 max). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires the operation of office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required.
