Nurse Manager Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee unit operations to ensure effective performance, including hiring, training, delegating tasks, and managing staff performance.
- Develop and implement business strategies to support unit goals and alignment with organizational mission.
- Ensure high-quality, evidence-based nursing care that achieves optimal patient outcomes.
- Serve as a primary liaison and information resource for the unit, promoting holistic and therapeutic care.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to team members while fostering a respectful, collaborative work environment.
- Monitor patient and internal customer satisfaction and implement continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., discharge calls, leadership rounding, AIDET/HML communication).
- Participate in patient safety programs and ensure staff competency and training in safety protocols.
- Conduct risk and liability assessments; develop and implement corrective action plans as needed.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., CMS core indicators) and facilitate relevant drills and education.
- Analyze clinical and operational data to identify variances, support process improvement, and implement corrective measures.
- Assist in developing and monitoring metrics and quality improvement goals, using national and organizational benchmarks.
- Promote a culture of safety through non-punitive error reporting and support of unit-level corrective actions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience related to the unit's scope
- Licensure: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia (upon start)
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required upon start | Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - Required upon start for Emergency Department, Critical Care, and procedural areas
Preferred Qualifications:
- Recent experience (5+ years) in labor and delivery nursing
- Background in leadership roles such as Supervisor, Clinical Mentor, Clinical Educator, Clinical Specialist, or RNUS
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
