Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.PE, CIH, CSP, or other professional registration considered a plus, but not required
Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an experienced environmental, health and safety team member. The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
- Develops, implements, and monitors company environmental, health and safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Oversee site EHS Management System to include support of internal/external audits as well as to assure, where appropriate, the EHS mgt. systems standards are being properly implemented (ISO14001/45001) at all sites within their purview
- Monitors environmental, health and safety compliance to permits/licenses and maintains liaison with appropriate regulatory agencies
- Reviews and approves chemical usage and required safeguards
- Maintains EHS equipment inventory, performs periodic inspections, and oversight of EHS requirements
- Develops and reviews JSAs
- Interacts with a variety of departments on all EHS matters
- Conducts training in a variety of OSHA and EPA program areas as appropriate to the activity at the site(s), such as Electrical Safety for Qualified Employees
- Investigates and recommends corrective action where environmental, health and safety hazards exist
- Develops, implements, coordinates & manages full scope environmental, health and safety compliance programs such as Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, Inert Gases, Ventilation, Electrical Safety/LOTO, powered industrial vehicles, and cranes/hoists
- Experienced in workplace ergonomics
- Assists in planning for physical changes to facilities to meet new EHS requirements
- Oversees management of change program for EHS impacts
- Lead site EHS Committee
- Serve as Radiation and Laser Safety Officer
- Participates/leads in emergency situations as an Emergency Coordinator
- Oversees/coordinate third party support for industrial hygiene monitoring and OSHA medical monitoring
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to perform, or comprehensive knowledge to perform, as an internal auditor for mgt. systems events (ISO14001/45001)
- Has strong experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways
- Strong ability to assess regulatory compliance and business objectives to satisfy both needs with experience/knowledge to perform internal compliance audits within the GDMS portfolio
- Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors
- Exercises strong judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
- Self-starter who networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise Mgt. system auditing skills and ISO standards knowledge will be essential in this role
- Experience in developing and delivering training
- Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel (team lead)
- May provide work direction to other employees (no authority to discipline or reward)
- The candidate has growth and leadership potential based on performance
- Strong organizational and communication skills required
- Proficient in basic computer program use such as Microsoft office products (do you want to add SharePoint or is that too limiting?)
- Competent in electrical safety and lockout/tagout regulatory requirements, risks, and remediation techniques
- Knowledge in general emergency procedures, coordination/liaison with outside emergency services, and ability to quickly assess and adapt emergency instructions to emerging conditions
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Target salary range: USD $123,734.00/Yr. - USD $133,884.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
