If you're pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or another related degree and want to gain experience in the areas of innovation, collaboration tools, programming, data analysis, or innovation lab and makerspace work - we'd love to have you join our team!

We're seeking an intern to join our team, which focuses on providing solutions that enable all of APL - our Sectors, Departments, and Sponsors, to achieve their strategic objectives. We also partner with the Innovation & Collaboration program to support a culture of innovation through a wide range of custom tools and services. Interns will have the opportunity to join our innovation team, our metrics/data analytics team, our innovation lab/makerspace team, and our SharePoint team.

As a member of our team...

  • Your primary responsibility will be learning about and supporting initiatives in the general areas of innovation, metrics/search/data analytics, SharePoint.
  • You may also support the APL innovation lab, which extends the work of traditional makerspaces by enabling the problem-finding, curation and problem-solving process.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or another related degree
  • Have a passion for innovation and problem solving with IT solutions
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Have good attention to detail and communication skills
  • Have an ability for independent work and in teams
  • Have Word, Excel, and Powerpoint proficiencies
  • Meet the requirements to access APL's facilities and networks. US Citizenship or permanent resident status is required, subject to applicable laws.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have hobby level experience with 3D printers, laser cutters, or modeling tools
  • Have survey tool familiarity (i.e. Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey)
  • Have experience in Microsoft Power BI, or experience in data analysis
  • Have exposure to programming languages and logic
  • Have exposure to waterfall or agile project management styles
  • Have exposure to technical business analysis
  • Have exposure to SharePoint Search technology

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
