Position Overview
The Kansas Geological Survey (KGS) is searching for a part-time to full-time (25 to 40 hours per week)
Web Content Administrator to assist with creating, editing, and publishing high quality web content that promotes the research and data sharing initiatives of the KGS. This position will collaborate with KGS Division/Program directors, subject matter experts, KGS IT, and other stakeholders to design web pages and prioritize content creation and editing tasks. They will manage project schedules to meet deadlines for timely publication of new and updated web content. In addition, this position will analyze web traffic and engagement metrics to assess content performance and user behavior. Based on metrics analysis, they will develop an update strategy for migrating current and legacy KGS content over to the current CMS. The successful candidate will also conduct routine site audits to evaluate accessibility and currency of site content.
Job Description
65% - Web Content Creation and Editing
- Create new web pages in the CMS to migrate over legacy content.
- Create new content in the CMS.
- Edit existing content as necessary.
- Collaborate with the KGS editor to ensure adherence to KGS style and publication policies along with KU and ADA accessibility standards.
30% - Content Priority/Migration Coordination
- Coordinate with stakeholders to understand requirements and establish a timeline for creating or modifying web content, assess data/information accessibility from a UX perspective, identify the best option for rendering content using the existing Drupal CMS templates (with minimal HTML customization).
- Coordinate with stakeholders to identify the priority of legacy content migration, assess data/information accessibility from a UX perspective, identify the best option for rendering content using the existing CMS templates, and design a plan for web content navigation (with minimal HTML customization).
- Participate in/lead regular web development team meetings to facilitate the aforementioned coordination with stakeholders.
5% - Other Duties as Assigned
- Actively participate in professional development activities to promote learning and growth.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma/GED and four (4) years of professional web content development and management using a Content Management System (CMS) as evidenced in application material.
- Two (2) years of professional background in website user interface/user experience design.
- One (1) year of experience working both independently and with stakeholders in a team environment, adhering to deadlines, and navigating multiple priorities.
- Strong written communication skills as demonstrated in application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience working with office and collaboration software such as Microsoft Office, Teams, and Sharepoint.
- Experience with academic/research content publication and data as evidenced in application material.
- One (1) year of experience developing and managing project plans.
- Experience with graphic design software such as Adobe Suite, Canva, etc. as evidenced in application material.
- Experience with HTML and JavaScript programming as evidenced in application material.

Advertised Salary Range
$26.30 - $29.80 per hour, commensurate with experience
