Description

The Town of Needham seeks a highly motivated candidate to fill the position of Student Intern within the Engineering division of the Department of Public Works. The intern will work directly with the Engineering team both with surveying staff and those involved with the State Revolving Funds (SRF) grant with the goal of understanding data collection and field verification methodologies as well as supporting the grant submission in identifying Town sewer and stormwater assets and attributes.

This opportunity is ideal for undergraduate students in Engineering to supplement their in-class learning with practical skill-building.

Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 8 am - 5 pm; Tuesday, 8 am - 6 pm; Friday, 8 am - 12:30 pm (Total 40 hours/week)

This position is temporary, scheduled to end in early January, 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities

These duties are a general summary and not all inclusive:

  • Gain foundational understanding of data collection and field verification.
  • Support grant process by identifying Town sewer and stormwater assets and attributes.
  • May assist in report-building for assets and attributes data collection.
  • May support on other related projects as time permits.

Requirements

The following requirements may be substituted by any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job:

  • Student with courses in Engineering or an interest in municipal government Engineering functions.
  • Prior exposure to surveying and/or asset and attribute identification is a plus.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Prior experience with Microsoft Office Suite is desired.
