Department:Public Works Department Organizational Unit:Roadway and Bridge Position Type:Permanent Full Time/Part Time:Full Time Open Until Filled. $28.81 to $31.69 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. South Area/Melbourne. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Performs skilled crafts and trades work supervising activities and crews involved in the development, construction, repair and maintenance of roads, streets, highways, parking lots, impoundment areas, and landfills. Supervises work crews. REQUIREMENTS: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in the construction, repair and/or maintenance of Public Works projects, including organizing, planning, and managing the construction and maintenance of public multi-lane roads; such as resurfacing, reconstruction, pothole repairs, drainage systems, sidewalks, and general right-of-way maintenance, including mowing and tree trimming cycles; estimating labor, equipment, and materials, scheduling work; documenting work, citizen-driven complaints and concerns through a work management and service request system, and supervising crews and contractors to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) standards, and Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. Experience in preparing roads for resurfacing and implementing road preservation treatments that enhance the lifespan of asphalt and improve driving, including a solid understanding of pavement management with the ability to utilize a Pavement Condition Index (PCI) score to evaluate roadways is preferred. Experience in establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) or annual goals is preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. This is moderate physical work performed outdoors and indoors that involves exposure to fumes, dirt, dust, noise, moving machinery, odors, traffic, and extreme weather conditions. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
