JOB SUMMARY This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job. The Ophthalmology Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Ophthalmology Technician team. The Supervisor supports clinic efficiency by assigning daily work, reviewing tasks, setting priorities, and adjusting workflows to meet patient and department needs. This role performs supervisory functions, including interviewing and recommending candidates for hire, coordinating training, evaluating performance, and recommending personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, or disciplinary actions. The Ophthalmology Supervisor ensures adequate staffing levels, supports high-quality patient care, and promotes operational excellence within the Ophthalmology practice. Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct. * Supervises Ophthalmology Technician team members, administers daily work assignments, and monitors workflow to ensure clinic needs are met. * Coordinates and problem-solves daily patient care and scheduling issues to maintain efficient clinic operations. * Prepares and maintains work schedules, ensuring adequate staffing and securing coverage as needed. * Oversees supply ordering, inventory control, and resource management for the Ophthalmology clinic. * Performs all duties of an Ophthalmology Technician when needed to support patient care and maintain clinic flow. * Provides or coordinates training and onboarding for new staff, ensuring competency in all technical procedures and workflows. * Participates in interviewing applicants and recommending candidates for hire, promotion, or transfer. * Evaluates staff performance and recommends personnel actions, including corrective action when appropriate. * Supports implementation of workflow improvements to enhance patient flow, reduce delays, and standardize processes among staff. * Demonstrates ability to address patient concerns, delays, and operational issues promptly and effectively. * Other duties as assigned. QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience License/Certification: Current American Heart Association (AHA) Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers. KNOWLEDGE These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education or licensure/certification. * Ability to establish and maintain excellent patient relationships and exhibit exemplary interpersonal and communication skills. * Ability to exercise sound judgment and professionalism in supervisory, operational, and patient-care situations. * Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. * Ability to identify problems, develop solutions, and support continuous improvement efforts. * Knowledge of scheduling workflows, staffing practices, and clinic operations. * Knowledge of computer systems and software used in the functional area. * Knowledge of medical terminology, ophthalmic procedures, and related clinic operations. * Knowledge of supply and inventory management processes. * Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency, streamline workflows, and standardize procedures across staff. * Ability to supervise clinical staff with authority to recommend hiring, disciplinary action, and performance-related decisions.
