Procurement Manager - R&D Sourcing

About the Role

We are seeking a Procurement Manager to lead the development, execution, and management of global sourcing strategies for R&D spend categories. This individual will implement robust procurement strategies, deliver measurable results, and support the growth and development of the procurement team. The role requires strong cross-functional collaboration, strategic thinking, and expertise in sourcing within the pharmaceutical R&D space.


Key Responsibilities


  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders to understand procurement needs and identify strategic sourcing opportunities. Educate teams on sourcing policies, processes, and systems.



  • Apply deep knowledge of R&D procurement categories and relevant markets to influence senior stakeholders and shape sourcing strategies.



  • Develop, agree on, and execute category sourcing strategies for R&D spend.



  • Manage relationships with key suppliers, including strategic alignment, performance monitoring, risk management, and continuous improvement.



  • Establish and track performance goals, including cost savings, cash flow optimization, and supplier diversity initiatives.



  • Implement procurement systems and procedures aligned with corporate and site objectives to optimize procurement performance.



  • Maximize adherence to corporate contracts and e-catalogs; manage supplier base to improve performance and compliance.



  • Lead category-level sourcing initiatives: RFIs/RFQs/RFPs, supplier qualification, total cost analysis, contract negotiations, and supplier selection.



  • Assist in corporate-level sourcing projects and ensure all cost savings and sourcing objectives are met.




Required Education and Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or Business.



  • 5-8 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, or a closely related function.



  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical R&D processes.



  • Proven experience executing RFx processes in cross-functional environments.



  • Track record of delivering measurable results in complex, global, and decentralized environments.



  • Experience managing cross-functional teams and multiple simultaneous projects.




Preferred Education and Experience


  • Involvement in a purchasing or procurement professional organization.



  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) designation a plus.




Competencies and Skills


  • Strong leadership and strategic sourcing knowledge; ability to identify opportunities and implement solutions independently.



  • Excellent project management and operational skills.



  • Experience managing internal and outsourced services is a plus.



  • High attention to detail with ability to manage multiple critical path projects.



  • Skilled in developing and monitoring metrics for sourcing activities.



  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution abilities.



  • Knowledge of GMP and/or GCP guidelines.



  • Proficient in ERP systems such as Oracle or SAP, as well as Excel, PowerPoint, and Project software.



  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to develop new strategies in response to external influences.



  • Excellent influencing, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills; ability to lead through influence in a matrixed environment.



  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.



  • Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
