Your Role

Strategy Directors play key leadership positions that drive the success of not only clients, but also our own. Externally, they are known in the industry for their expertise, grow larger, long-term relationships, and become the go-to advisor for executive-level clients. Internally, you will build strategic services into our work and mentor team members to grow the capabilities of the firm. You will work to create lasting impact by being part strategic advisor, part client developer, and part team builder. They inspire and lead teams to solve clients' toughest challenges across multiple domains within the Retail sector.

What You Will Do

Projects

  • Forges a path on strategy projects that may have vague parameters or that frequently change/evolve and encourages original thinking

  • Establishes the vision and purpose for the project and collaborates with the Design Directors to safeguard strategic vision throughout the project

  • Serves as authority on the relevant body of work / research / methodologies

  • Partners with the Strategy Lead/Strategy Manager to determine the strategic approach, scope, and deliverables for projects

  • Supports the Strategy Lead/Strategy Manager in the leadership and direction of teams delivering client-specific strategies that address specific business goals

Client

  • Leads client conversations with conviction and expertise

  • Has ongoing client relationships and grows existing and new relationships

  • Actively participates in business development and client relationship development

External Presence

  • Is a visible and recognized leader/authority in the market: participates in industry organizations, speaking events, and/or publishing articles or blogs.

  • Uses insights to position Gensler's value in business development initiatives

Business Growth

  • Understands team member capabilities and goals to build effective strategy teams, identifies opportunities for team member advancement (with Studio Directors)

  • Identifies talent needs and actively participates in talent acquisition (with Studio Directors)

  • Inspires, mentors and supports staff to help them achieve not only client goals but personal development goals

  • Engages with the Design Purpose community to facilitate alignment and synergy within the communities

  • Partners with PA leads to develop annual strategic plans to grow Strategy and thought leadership across the business,grounded in market opportunity and evidence of client/practice need (with Practice Area Leaders)

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Branding, Marketing, or relevant area (Master's degree preferred)

  • At least 15 years of relevant retail strategy experience, with a strong background designing multiple building typologies of varying scale within retail practice

  • Proficient and confident in public speaking, and in moderating large teams of consultants, contractors, and clients

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships across the firm, with clients, and with other key constituents
