Position Summary


The Senior Power Rental Field Service Technician supports Fabick CAT's Power Rental operations with a primary focus on field service, emergency response, and disaster relief efforts. This role is responsible for the deployment, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of power rental equipment including backup power generators, compressors, chillers, and HVAC systems. The technician serves as a frontline responder during planned outages, emergency events, and disaster recovery operations, requiring extensive travel, flexible scheduling, and the ability to perform independently in high-pressure environments.



Key Responsibilities



  • Provide advanced field service support for power rental equipment including:


    • Backup and standby power generators
    • Air compressors
    • Chillers
    • HVAC and temperature control systems


  • Deploy, install, commission, and decommission power rental equipment at customer sites
  • Respond to emergency and disaster relief events, including storms, floods, power outages, and critical infrastructure failures
  • Travel extensively to support regional and multi-state emergency response efforts
  • Perform complex diagnostics and repairs on mechanical, electrical, and control systems
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts during critical uptime situations with minimal supervision
  • Perform preventative maintenance in accordance with manufacturer, Caterpillar, and Fabick CAT standards
  • Conduct pre-deployment inspections and post-rental evaluations to ensure equipment readiness
  • Communicate directly with customers, site contacts, and internal teams during emergency response
  • Accurately document service work, inspections, and field reports
  • Maintain strict adherence to all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
  • Support after-hours, on-call, and extended-duration emergency response assignments

Requirements

Required Qualifications



  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience servicing power generation, rental power, HVAC, or industrial equipment
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, electrical power systems, and control systems
  • Proven field service experience with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively, including overnight, weekend, and extended assignments
  • Ability to respond on short notice to emergency and disaster relief events


Preferred Qualifications



  • Previous power rental or emergency response experience
  • Caterpillar equipment experience and/or CAT training certifications
  • HVAC certification or chiller system experience
  • Experience supporting critical infrastructure (hospitals, utilities, data centers, municipalities)
  • DOT medical card or CDL (or ability to obtain)


Physical Requirements



  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to work long hours in demanding conditions during emergency response
  • Ability to climb, kneel, crawl, and work in confined spaces
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions



Travel Requirements



  • High travel requirement, including regional and multi-state travel
  • Extended deployments during emergency and disaster relief operations
  • Overnight stays and variable schedules expected
