The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

The laboratory of Dr. Michael Goldberg at the Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute has an open position for a highly motivated Research Staff Assistant to assist working in a laboratory that focuses on understanding the physiology of visual attention. This position will allow the incumbent to gain proficiency in a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment.

This is a full-time grant funded role.

Responsibilities



  • Under the direction and supervision of the PI, perform tasks in the daily maintenance of animals including monitoring water, feeding, well-being, and training on behavioral and visual tasks.
  • Assist with regular cleaning of recording chambers, maintaining animal records, and interacting with veterinary staff.
  • Collect and analyze large data sets using computer software programs, preparing solutions and reagents under sterile and non-sterile conditions, preparing for surgeries, autoclaving and sterilizing instruments.
  • Perform analytics related to data and projects using Matlab, Python and additional programming languages.
  • Assist with administrative and documentation relating to experiments.
  • Other duties assigned by the PI.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in a Physics, Mathematics, Computer science, Statistics, Neuroscience or a related discipline with at least 6 months of research experience or IT experience.


Preferred Qualifications

Overall familiarity with scientific and medical terminology. Prior work experience in a scientific lab essential. Candidates familiar with electronic circuity and computer programming.

The ideal candidate must show an ability to work independently with accuracy and attention to detail. They must be flexible in nature and exhibit a willingness to learn new techniques and function in a fast-paced and changing work environment. They must possess strong organizational skills, keep excellent notes, show sound judgment, and have a collaborative style that fosters teamwork and cooperation as well as the ability to work independently within a diverse and dynamic team environment.
