Your Impact

As a Senior Associate at RMI, you will use your creative problem-solving skills to provide analysis and support on initiatives to reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas sector.

You'll be part of RMI's Climate Intelligence Program (CIP), which advances data-driven approaches to quantifying emissions and builds upon this foundation with action-oriented contextual analysis and market-driven solutions. This position will contribute to the Oil and Gas Solutions Initiative (OGSI), which aims to accelerate the transition away from oil and gas and decarbonization of the sector in parallel by increasing emissions transparency and advancing market-based solutions with a diverse set of stakeholders - from governments and companies to investors and civil society.Regardless of your background or level of experience, you will have the opportunity to help bring about change in the world that you might not find anywhere else in your career.

This role will report to CIP Manager Ingrid Mielke-Maday.

Major Roles and Responsibilities
  • Conduct new analysis of companies' emissions reduction targets, strategy, and performance, including state-owned companies.
  • Through original analysis, identify the market and financial factors impacting the ability of oil companies to reach their methane emissions reduction targets and synthesize recommendations to drive progress towards these targets.
  • Pursue pathways to reduce methane emissions through policy- and market-driven efforts alongside our partners and key stakeholder groups.
  • Support relations with stakeholders that may include policymakers and regulators, academic researchers, other NGOs, oil and gas companies, and financial institutions.
  • Collaborate with other RMI initiatives and programs to drive joint analysis and outcomes related to the energy transition and oil and gas.
  • Present quantitative information in a clear, visual format for public consumption, such as for white papers, journal articles, presentations, and RMI publications.
Core Skills and Experiences
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field such as energy economics, energy policy, chemical or environmental engineering, climate science, data science, environmental science, etc.
  • Corporate financial and strategic analysis, and financial modeling.
  • At least 4 years of relevant work experience OR a M.S. degree in a related field plus 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills, including the ability to break down complex issues in a straightforward, rational manner.
  • Self-direction and ability to balance concurrent requests and priorities.
Desired Skills and Experiences
  • Experience in the oil and gas or electricity industries, energy consulting and research, policy and regulation, energy-related economics and finance, or other related fields.
  • Exceptional writing skills for both technical and general audiences.
  • Background working on sectoral greenhouse gas emissions, especially methane.

Location

We are a remote-ready organization with team members around the globe. Our beautiful and welcoming offices are available for meetings or focused work, whether you are traveling through or living nearby. Our U.S. offices are in New York City; Washington DC; Oakland, California; Boulder, Colorado; and Basalt, Colorado. This role can be located from anywhere in the continental United States.

We provide you with the essential IT equipment plus a one-time home technology payment and a monthly work from home/commuter allowance to ensure you have a comfortable home office set up and necessary supplies.

We love seeing each other in person! We occasionally gather for shared time together like retreats and learning experiences. Be ready to travel for occasional in-person meetings (and of course, we cover travel costs). Some roles may require more travel, which will be discussed during the hiring process.

Compensation

RMI compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary range for this position is $84,000-$103,000.You would also have an additional5t%bonus target!
