The MGH Cancer Center phlebotomist is a vital role in the oncology team caring for patients with cancer and other hematologic conditions. The phlebotomist works as part of a phlebotomy team in a high-volume, multi-provider office setting. Responsibilities include patient specimen collection in the form of venipuncture, capillary stick, urine, stool, and sputum samples for various test procedures. The phlebotomist adheres to all policies and procedures including universal precautions and advanced infection control precautions, proper patient identification and labeling. The phlebotomist will be trained in collection of and proper transport of research specimen collection as well. All members of the phlebotomy team are responsible for keeping the labs organized, stocked and clean. The phlebotomy team reports to the ambulatory nurse director.
Qualified candidate will have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and certification in phlebotomy. Candidate will need to be flexible with ability to move between four different lab locations in the cancer center. Must have strong communication skills with patients and team members.
