Job Summary

Manage accounting/financial operations at the School level or serve as the second level of accounting/finance management within a large unit. Functions overseen usually include budgeting, financial analysis, maintaining financial records and preparation of financial reports and statements. May also supervise additional administrative related functions. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing performance, providing feedback, and making pay recommendations. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: School Chair and faculty or unit management and finance head, subordinate staff, Administration and Finance management and staff. This position typically will advise and counsel: School administration or unit management, subordinate staff. This position will supervise: accounting staff.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 - Oversee preparation and consolidation of school or unit budgets consistent with Institute policy; administer budget amendment process.
Job Duty 2 - Supervise the proper recording of financial transactions.
Job Duty 3 - Direct the preparation of financial reports and statements on both a regular scheduled and ad hoc basis.
Job Duty 4 - Advise management regarding the school or unit's financial status; make recommendations as appropriate.
Job Duty 5 - May supervise school unit administrative functions such as human resources, purchasing, etc.
Job Duty 6 - Plan and direct subordinate work activities; evaluate, document and provide feedback relative to individual performance.
Job Duty 7 - Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or equivalent combination of education and experience

Other Required Qualifications
Position must work well with others and defuse potential conflicts. A proven track record of delivering quality work on time and within budget is also essential. An ability to innovate and solve new problems is desired.

Required Experience
Six to eight years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's of Business Administration (MBA)

Proposed Salary

The salary range for this position is $95,000 - $110,000.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
This job requires knowledge of accounting principles and practices as applied within a university academic, research or business unit. Also included are skills in use of related computer applications as well as supervisory, communications and analytical skills.

  • IAC School Budget Reconciliations Oversee the state budget monthly reconciliation reports to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • GTF Worktag Reconciliation - Manage the foundation endowment and gift account monthly reconciliation reports to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Department Sales and Services (DSS) Reconciliation Administer the Department Sales and Services Revenue and manage the DSS monthly financial reconciliation reports to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Workday Transaction Review Analyze and approve Workday transactions.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Managers - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize budget allocation and resource management.
  • Compliance Lead - Champion continuous learning and adaptation to new policies, processes, financial tools, and methodologies.
