Required Qualifications: Per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. Four years of full-time experience in the electrical trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in the electrical trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Electrician) traineeship or a two-year electrician training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program. * Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific class room instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of "C" or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training. Candidate must be able to perform the physical tasks of the position such as bending, lifting, stretching and climbing. Must have the ability to work in confined spaces and from a ladder, scaffolding or man lift over ten feet in height. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. (***Out-of-State Applicants, see "Special Notes"). Preferred Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED. Maintenance experience with electrical systems in a large commercial or institutional setting. Brief Description of Duties: The Trades Specialist (Electrician) will be responsible for performing maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, installation and repair of campus electrical systems. Must consistently maintain and demonstrate a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of University assets and employees. Physically able to work from ladders, scaffolds, man-lifts and boom trucks. Ability to work outside in all different types of weather conditions. Ability to work overtime and respond to campus electrical outages during the off hours. This position also supports the HVAC Department.
Special Notes: This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference. SG 12 Hiring Rate $48,956, Job Rate $59,757. This position includes location pay of $3,400, annually. The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.
