We are seeking a Acoustic Engineer II to join our federal team at our York, PA location. Johson Controls Navy Systems (JCNS) specializes in shipboard HVAC&R equipment and control systems supporting the U.S. Navy and affiliated organizations. In the role of acoustic engineer, you will be responsible for the design testing and certification of JCNS products relative to sound and vibration performance. The acoustic engineer will be able to work effectively both as part of a multi-disciplinary team as well as independently. This is an on-site position.

As an Acoustic Engineer II, you will:
- Review customer requirements and specifications and communicate their impact to the larger engineering team.
- Perform work in accordance with JCNS Product Development Processes and other JCI, commercial, and military procedures and standards.
- Drive product development towards meeting customer acoustic requirements
- Review noise test data and reports for compliance with customer specifications
- Perform prototype and production Navy qualification testing by troubleshooting acoustic issues, recording and reviewing test data, and maintaining the acoustic hardware and/or software as required.
- Provide input to cost and schedule estimates.
- Give presentations to internal and external groups at technical and non-technical levels
- Additional responsibilities will be assigned according to skills, experience and interest
Required Qualifications:
- A BS degree in acoustics engineering, physics or related field with coursework focused on acoustics from an ABET accredited school or an equivalent combination of education and work experience is required.
- Candidate must have a combination of at least two (2) years of work experience with acoustic design, testing and evaluation
- S. Citizen with the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain and active DoD security clearance. Willing to work in a secured space.
- Ability to travel within the United States to resolve equipment concerns onsite, meet with customers and vendors or to support third party testing laboratories. The extent of travel is estimated at less than 10%.
- Experience with setting up equipment and analyzing data from precision microphone and accelerometer measurements. Signal processing experience including proper windowing and averaging to produce APS/FFT, Octave-band measurements and Overall level measurements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Theoretical understanding of the physical behavior of sound and vibration
- Vibration Analysis with an understanding of common noise sources of motors, compressors and rotating systems.
- Ability to manipulate and analyze large data sets.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel is required, MATLAB or another scripting language is helpful.
- Ability to test, evaluate, compare and troubleshoot acoustic performance versus customer requirements
- Skill in taking acoustic measurements, including sound pressure, sound power, acoustic intensity, accelerometer, Rogowski coil and proximity probe measurements.
- Ability to perform modal testing of equipment,
- Understanding of vibration isolation of machinery
- Ability to read, interpret and apply government and industry standards
- Ability to work in a fast-paced performance and reliability driven, team-oriented environment.
Preferred Education:
- Experience with the following software is a plus: PAK by Mueller BBM, MATLAB, Bently Nevada's ADRE, ANSYS products for vibration analysis.
