Summary: The Environmental Data Analyst will manage environmental data derived from various remediation projects and investigations in various formats and mold the data to fit into the current database solution. The Environmental Data Analyst will support the organization by molding, storing, querying, and reporting environmental data to support multiple projects. This position requires working within a range of applications and platforms involving data manipulation, warehousing, cleansing, and visualization. The Environmental Data Analyst will be organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and interested in a career involving analytical data management, data integrity, and data science. This position requires the ability and desire to collaborate with others, develop new skills, and stay updated on current and new technologies. Must be comfortable working with colleagues representing many different disciplines and experience levels. Must be able to work a minimum of a 40-hour workweek, plus additional as required to complete assignments on a timely basis. This position may sit in either our Anchorage, AK or Golden, CO office locations. The salary range for this position is $69,545-$115,431/year, please note this is a tiered position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to): All Levels
- Working with scientific data in various spreadsheets, databases, and geodatabase platforms, including metadata and documentation.
- Working with data from different sources, often provided in different formats (i.e. XML, CSV, ASCII, .dbf, .prj, etc.), molding that data into the current database solution.
- Ensuring, via QA/QC and peer review processes, that the quality data standards of project deliverables are met.
- Analyzing and determining information needs and elements, data relationships and attributes, data flow and storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities.
- Supporting staff's production of reports, queries, exports, and coding to facilitate department functions.
- Performing and managing multiple tasks within scope/budget/schedule expectations.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Level-Specific Responsibilities (may include but not limited to): Level - II
- Provide assistance to the data visualization and management team and project managers; and adhere to scope, schedule, and budget on projects
- Maintain 2 areas of technical expertise
- Ability to write code in SQL, VBA, Python, or other appropriate languages to map data from one data platform to another accurately and efficiently.
- Perform data management and analysis tasks, deliverable preparation, and peer review data deliverables
- Troubleshoot data issues
- Technical mentoring
Level - III

- Lead data management and analysis tasks, deliverable preparation, and peer review data deliverables
- Lead quality control efforts to maintain requirements for the program.
- Workload leveling, prioritization of tasks, and technical mentoring
- Manage complex project data involving site characterization, long-term monitoring, and similar tasks
- Ability to manage/work with multiple individuals across several AORs
- Able to readily adapt to various workflow processes
Minimum Qualifications All levels:
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative subject (engineering, science, computer science, statistics, math, or equivalent).
- Strong working knowledge of quantitative research methods, with emphasis on the importance of maintaining functional, consistent, and integral data.
- Strong set of skills in computer programs, including Microsoft Office suite (particularly Excel and Access).
- Ability to understand and write code to transform, manage, or migrate data across data storage platforms such as MS SQL Server or MS Access, using transact SQL, Python, or other programming languages.
- Strong analytical skills in reviewing and assessing data.
- Experience with database structures, maintenance, and integrity.
- Ability to pass background checks by various Federal Agencies (e.g. DOD, DHS, FAA, etc.) to obtain security access badges.
- Must be a citizen of the United States of America.
Level - II
- Three (3) to five (5) years of previous work experience in environmental data management with strong analytical skills, data maintenance experience, and a clear aptitude for data science. Specialized training, and/or advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience.
Level - III
- Five (5) to eight (8) years of previous work experience in environmental data management with strong analytical skills, data analysis experience, coding capabilities, and a clear aptitude for data science. Specialized training and/or an advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience.
Level - Senior
- More than eight (8) or more years of previous work experience in environmental data management with strong analytical skills, data analysis experience, database experience, coding capabilities, and a clear aptitude for data science. Specialized training and/or an advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with one or more of the following relational database systems: Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access, MySQL, Oracle, and EarthSoft's EQuIS
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS, as well as data visualization tools such as EVS, Leapfrog, and gINT
- Familiarity with AutoCAD
- A background in chemistry or experience with laboratory analytical databases (LIMS), electronic data deliverables (EDDs), detection limits, lab qualifiers, etc.
- Experience working with geospatial data, often implemented through GIS platforms such as ArcGIS or Trimble Business Center
- Ability to implement Python onto ArcGIS
- Understanding of powerful data analysis tools involving, but not limited to, scripting and extension languages such as SQL, R, Python, VBA, Perl, or MATLAB
- Interest and/or experience in GPS data and technology
- Knowledge of how environmental data collected is acquired
- Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures

Working Environment:
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time while talking on the telephone, using computers for typing and entering data for up to 3 - 4 hours at a time.
Physical Demands (including but not limited to):
- Must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 20 pounds - maintaining files and documentation requires stooping and carrying and/or lifting materials.
- Work requires computer usage with strength, dexterity, coordination, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and video display terminal and other office equipment.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. or as needs dictate
