The Humanities Department at the Long Island Campus of New York Institute of Technology (New York Tech) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Technical Communication and/or Composition, starting in Fall 2025.

We seek a dynamic scholar who can engage students across disciplines and contribute innovative research in the fields of composition, technical communication, or medical writing. The successful candidate will teach a 3/3 course load, with opportunities for release time for scholarship or administrative roles. In addition to teaching, the candidate will play a key role in designing a soon-to-be-proposed major in Writing and Technical Communication, providing a unique opportunity to shape the program's vision from the ground up.



Responsibilities

    Teaching introductory and advanced courses in Tech Comm, Professional Writing and related topics.
  • Conducting cutting-edge research in composition, medical writing, technical communication, digital media, UX, or communication for emerging technologies.
  • Contributing to program growth in writing and/or technical communication, including designing courses and helping shape the new major. There is also potential to explore areas like new media, digital storytelling, and interdisciplinary communication initiatives.
  • School-, department-, and institution-level service.

The position is based at the Long Island campus, with potential teaching opportunities at the New York City campus and online, offering flexibility in course delivery.



Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Technical Communication, Composition, or a closely related field
  • College-level teaching experience
  • Commitment to undergraduate education and dedication to innovative and effective teaching methods that prepare a diverse student body for future success
  • An active research agenda in Writing Studies, Tech Comm, or related field.

New York Tech considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience/expertise, education/training, key skills, geographic location, internal peer equity as well as market, organizational considerations and/or applicable collective bargaining agreement when extending an offer.



Minimum Salary

USD $75,500.00/Yr.

USD $100,000.00/Yr.
