Job Overview

The Junior Prevention, Education and Outreach Coordinator learns to facilitate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate prevention and community-based outreach programs at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO), specific to the Healthy Roots Food Clinic and Garden. The Junior Coordinator supports programming by prescribed coordination of Food as Medicine initiatives, including site-specific work in the food clinic and the community garden.

Job Status: full time, 40 hours per week.
Shift: Garden season 7am to 3pm and off season 9am to 5pm

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION - High School Diploma.
  • EXPERIENCE - Two years of experience coordinating and implementing preventing and education initiatives that help address social determinants of health.

1 year of experience working or interning in a farming environment, master gardener, horticulturalist or equivalent agricultural training preferred. Knowledge of food safety, organic growing practices, succession planting, crop rotation, and integrated pest management preferred

CERTIFICATION(S) - Civil Rights Training (Issued by Food Bank of the Rockies). Food Safety Training (Issued by Food Bank of the Rockies). Food safety training from the Produce Safety Alliance- Grower Training. Trainings must be completed after hire.

LANGUAGE - Bilingual Spanish/English

No direct patient care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

* Coordinates program specific outreach and events, as prescribed, and maintains program branding materials including brochures and websites.

* Serves as liaison between program, department, CHCO and community partners.

* Supports development and implementation of population health programs based on community benefit strategic plan, including activities designed to improve health, safety, and family education/empowerment.

* Actively trains and develops prevention, education, and outreach skillsets and progressively becomes responsible for more complex duties and responsibilities.

* Participates in local, state, regional and national efforts related to issues identified by the CHCO community health needs assessment.

* Assists in daily operations of the food clinic to include (but not limited to) food procurement, organization, and distribution

* Assists with the daily operations of the garden during the growing season (planting, crop maintenance, irrigation, pest management, harvesting, storage, monitoring production plan, overseeing internal and external volunteers, provide tours and host events, host garden programming sessions with internal clinics, maintain food safety best practices, and coordinate the distribution of harvest to the Food Clinic). Role requires exceptional attention to detail to maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive garden environment.

* Garden off-season: assists with production plan evaluation and creating production plan for following year, based on high-yield production practices and utilizing succession planting. Assists with garden strategy work, development of therapeutic horticulture program, and garden volunteer program.

* Helps the garden implement Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) that align with the Produce Safety Rule within the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and maintains compliance with all internal and external compliance requirements.

* Interest in working with pediatric populations and sharing passion of gardening and nutrition with patient families and team member

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $50,911.60 to $76,367.40
Hourly Salary Range: $24.48 to $36.72
