Position Summary

The Department of Family and Community Medicine seeks a qualified Family Medicine Physician with special interest and training in surgical obstetrics who is passionate about service and education. This position will focus on Maternal Child Health and primary care. The faculty will work as an attending physician on the Family Medicine Maternal and Child Health service (MCH), provide addiction consultation for inpatient pregnant patients with substance use disorder, attend in the University Hospital newborn service (level one), and potentially the intermediate care nursery (level two). The education focus includes teaching UNM medical students, UNM Family Medicine residents, Family Medicine MCH fellows and residents in pediatrics and Ob/Gyn. UNM MCH has a strong community-based focus with partnerships with the community and rural family medicine practices. Abundant research opportunities are available if interested.

Patient Centered Care

In the clinical area, the candidate will be engaged in a primary care, team-based model exploring innovative methodology of health care delivery. We have a growing number of Family Medicine clinics throughout Albuquerque in which faculty practice. These are all Patient Centered Medical Home Model and currently many of these clinics are rated the top level, PCMH (level 3).

Innovative Education

We are nationally and internationally known for educational innovation, currently in the area of the integration of medicine and public health. Our faculty are major contributors to the education of medical students at UNM and our residency program creates opportunities for rotations in both rural and underserved settings as well as UNM rotations.

  • We have several Fellowships including Maternal Child Health, Sports Medicine and Rural Medicine.
  • We boast a large number of residents practicing in New Mexico including those not native to New Mexico
  • We are home of the UNM Physician Assistant Program

About Albuquerque, New Mexico

Albuquerque, NM is a beautiful city with mountains to the east and a mesa to the west. It is ideal for outdoor activities and sports all year round including running, hiking, biking and skiing. Albuquerque is 1 hour from Santa Fe, NM and 2.5 hours from Taos, NM, both world famous for their art and culture. The State of New Mexico is multicultural and diverse with 19 indigenous native pueblos, Navajo reservation and three Apache tribal lands. We have excellent local cuisine, breathtaking sunsets, multiple cultural and historic sites, lakes, rivers, deserts and mountains.

Salary: salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy; board eligible/certified in Family Medicine by the ABFP or AOA
  • Family Medicine Obstetrics or MCH Fellowship or equivalent training and experience to obtain operative obstetric privileges
  • Eligible for medical licensure in NM
  • Eligible for State of New Mexico Board of Pharmacy certification and federal DEA registration
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience practicing surgical obstetrics beyond fellowship
  • Patient care experience in an office or community clinic
  • Experience in educating students and residents
  • Addiction medicine experience or board certification
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity,
    inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse
    communities.
