Job Title: Quality Technician

Operating Company: Environmental Solutions Group - Marathon Equipment

Location: Vernon, AL

Reports To: Quality Manager

Department: Quality

Shift: 1st shift

Position Summary:

Marathon Equipment is looking for a high caliber individual to join our fast-paced organization as a Quality / Process Technician and to take a lead role in further enhancing our Quality Management System. The successful candidate will have a strong background in continuous improvement activities. The candidate must have strong analytical skills to further develop our data capture system and be well versed in root cause analysis and be able to further develop corrective and preventative actions and feedback communication throughout the entire organization. Must be experienced in continuous improvement activities such as Kaizen events, 5S, Kanban, value stream and process mapping. Must also be a practical hands-on technician but also have a vision for the future state. Previous experience in a fabrication, hydraulics and electrical processes would be favorable. Must be willing to work overtime as needed when units are being produced.

Roles and Key Responsibilities:

Constantly promote all Continuous Improvement activities. Run tests on various types of equipment. Make minor repairs as necessary to make all units meet standards. Comparing design drawings and job orders to actual product produced. Understand construction methods and procedures used at Marathon Equipment. Using the Quality Management System data target improvement activities for Marathon products and processes to improve customer satisfaction both internal and external. Create and implement ever improving electronic information via the Quality Management System intranet via Standard Operating Procedures, video, CD, and web-based tools. Play a lead role in the development and guide the continued execution of the Marathon Quality Management System. Work with Quality Manager on root cause, corrective action, and verification of effectiveness checks. Perform daily audits on units in all areas of the plant. Play a lead role in the development and guide the continued execution of the Marathon Production System. Take a lead role in the development in Lean activities such as developing training and communication tools. Lead Major and Minor kaizen events and train colleagues to lead their own major and minor events. Conduct 5S and Safety audits and develop programs to improve safety record. Develop strong sustainable improvements to processes, both manufacturing and transactional. Strong communication skills. Assist in guiding the use of technology in Quality Management System. Must be willing to work overtime (Friday-Saturday) as needed when units are being produced.

Job Specifications:

5 years' experience at multiple manufacturing processes within Marathon production environment. Works under limited supervision while implementing clearly communicated corporate strategy and goals. Must work on own initiative and constantly support the company mission and effectively communicate to all, the requirements of the Quality Management System. Exercises a moderate degree of judgment. Specific and general results as well as effectiveness of operation and administration are subject to supervisor examination and review. Questionable matters referred to supervisor for clarification, assistance, and/or intervention.

Requirements:

Education: Requires a High School diploma or GED.

Knowledge: Requires ability to understand general arithmetic; ability to write in an understandable manner; understand verbal or written instructions; ability to read and understand instructions, lists and billing materials; use PC based applications, including JD Edwards, Outlook, and Microsoft Office, knowledge normally acquired through high school or equivalent experience.

Mental: Requires normal attention with periods of high concentration intermittently to operate machinery approximately 50% of time.

Physical: Requires walking/standing approximately 70%, lifting up to 40 pounds approximately 15% of time; involves repetitive overhead work approximately 10% of time; involves repetitive stooping, forward bending and crouching approximately 5% of time.

Manual Dexterity: Requires use of hands, arms and feet for repetitive lifting; use of hands and arms to operate all manufacturing equipment, meters, chains hoists, automatic drills and general hand tools and to record written information.

Audible Demands: Requires ability to follow verbal instructions and to hear for safety purposes.

Visual: Requires the ability to visually observe essential functions for satisfactory job performance and safety; color and depth perception required.

Environmental: Involves exposure to plant environments with the presence of dust, fumes, noise, and fluctuating temperatures due to lack of climate control.
