DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will be responsible for a range of analytical tasks, as well as preventative maintenance and repair activities for a diverse fleet that includes construction machinery, trucks, and automobiles. The equipment you will work on is powered by either gasoline or diesel engines, and your duties will encompass the repair and maintenance of various systems, including hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems, along with both manual and automatic transmissions. You will also conduct state vehicle inspections for all assigned equipment that requires such evaluations, ensuring that work orders are completed accurately, time is logged correctly, and any incidents of equipment damage or accidents are reported without delay.
Your responsibilities will extend to the repair and overhaul of vehicles, including cars, trucks, and tractors, as well as maintenance on equipment like sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders. This will involve replacing and repairing components such as shock absorbers, transmissions, hour meters, clutches, and brakes. You will also balance wheels, check alignment, perform minor body repairs, and overhaul and test alternators and electrical systems on both vehicles and equipment.
Additionally, you will implement a preventative maintenance program for vehicles, equipment, and their parts. This includes performing automotive diagnostics, tune-ups, and tire changes, as well as repairing and replacing engine sub-assemblies and adjusting cooling, suspension, electrical, heating, and air-conditioning systems. You will also be tasked with maintaining fuel, brake, steering, and transmission systems, along with repairing or rebuilding construction or shop equipment.
As part of your duties, you will conduct official state inspections for safety and emissions on assigned vehicles, ensuring that all repairs meet compliance standards. This will involve road testing vehicles, completing inspection stickers, and maintaining accurate State Inspection Records and related documentation. You will utilize diagnostic equipment and procedures to identify issues with equipment, determining the necessary repair methods, tools, and parts required. Furthermore, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of motorized hand tools, including chain saws, compressors, jack hammers, tampers, hand mowers, trimmers, routers, patching machines, and heating kettles. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- Travel, overtime and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License.
- Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
Conditions of Employment:
- All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- Certain positions may require employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
- All positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
Additional Requirement:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
