HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE AND WHAT YOU WILL LEARN



  • As part of the leadership of the Artificial Intelligence Research lab, you will be responsible for driving our vision for mathematics, algorithms and theoretical computing science in telecommunications and beyond.
  • Showing technology leadership and staying current with the state-of-the-art technology
  • Active contribution to the construction of project proposals
  • Reporting and communication (to peers, upper and lower levels)
  • Driving impact of research results towards Nokia's portfolio and support the technology transfer to business groups
  • Building solutions that extend beyond Nokia's current research portfolio and supporting their transfer towards incubation.
  • Resource planning and steering individual activities toward the lab vision

  • Strategic Vision: Develop and execute a comprehensive research strategy aligned with Bell Labs' long-term goals and industry trends.
  • Research Leadership: Lead and mentor a diverse team of world-class scientists and engineers, fostering a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment.
  • Innovation & Development: Identify and pursue high-impact research opportunities, leading the development of cutting-edge technologies with the potential to transform industries.
  • External Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with leading academic institutions, government agencies, and industry partners to facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration.
  • Resource Management: Manage research budgets effectively, ensuring optimal allocation of resources to maximize impact and return on investment.
  • Communication & Advocacy: Communicate research findings and strategic vision effectively to internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, investors, and the scientific community.


KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Technical Qualifications



  • Track record of significant scientific achievements and real-world impact in machine learning, algorithms, information theory, telecommunications, or optimization
  • A proven ability to identify and pursue high-impact research opportunities, leading to groundbreaking innovations.
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, with the ability to anticipate future trends and develop long-term research roadmaps.
  • Strong understanding of industry trends and emerging technologies
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative and fast-paced environment
  • PhD in mathematics, computer science, engineering, telecommunication, or other relevant fields



Leadership/Management Qualifications



  • Demonstrable leadership experience with strong interpersonal & coaching skills, with experience leading and motivating high-performing teams.
  • Conflict resolution, accountability management, employee guidance & training.
  • Strong problem-solving (technical & otherwise), excellent time management, involved team player, self-motivated, creative thinking and strong English verbal communication and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • The ability to establish a strong relationship with Nokia leadership across the entire organization & varying disciplines.
  • Experience in building and managing external partnerships
