Position Overview
Facilities Services supports KU's mission of learning, scholarship, and creative endeavor by operating and maintaining the University's physical plant and grounds. Duties of this position include the installation and maintenance of Fire Alarm Systems, VFD's, Sound Systems, Scoreboard, and other electronic systems on campus.

Job Description 20% - Installation, Modification and Design: Assists with, makes recommendations for and/or is responsible for the installation, modification and design of circuits which are required in order to have effective operation of electronic systems campus-wide. Prepares sketches, diagrams, or plans for electronic devices for use by related maintenance shops and other personnel in performing building systems maintenance. Selects suitable materials and components for modifying electronic equipment as needed. Reads schematics and wiring diagrams of complicated pieces of equipment. Utilizes microcomputer knowledge to monitor and analyze interactive controls, and system performance.
20% - Shop Maintenance and Expansion: Trains other shop personnel in the care and use of electronic testing equipment, hand tools, electrical and electronic systems, including public address, scoreboard, and intrusion alarms, as necessary. Initiates orders and maintains an inventory of a limited amount of fast-moving repair parts. Maintains appropriate logs on all University systems that are the responsibility of Facilities Services, and those maintained through current or future planned central computerized control. Confers with departmental personnel concerning functions to be performed and determines feasibility of the cost of equipment repair. Must be knowledgeable of highly sensitive research equipment and have knowledge of and show appropriate use of current safety practices for handling hazardous waste and other hazardous materials used in the construction of related environment. 25% - Fire Alarm Maintenance: Installs, modifies, tests, and maintains campus fire alarm systems and network. Helps instruct and train personnel to perform these same tasks. 20% - Radio Maintenance: Modifies, tests, and maintains electronic radio communications, both portable and base, as well as battery chargers, and other electronic communications equipment and devices. Conforms to Federal Communication Commission specifications in adjusting and monitoring the performance of radio units, analog and digital mini-computer, radio antennas and towers, and traffic radar equipment. Maintains records of FCC measurements for all licensed equipment for the University. 15% - Completes any other duties as assigned: Serves as lead worker to other crew members. Completes any other duties as assigned. Established time schedules for maintenance and preventive maintenance of electronic equipment, including maintaining fire alarm test records. Performs project reviews and participates in collaborative meetings for Facilities Services and Design and Construction Management as needed. Position Requirements
