Job Summary
The Director of Student Success is responsible for the strategic leadership, management, and development of academic success programs offered at Glendale Community College (GCC). The person in this role will work collaboratively with academic departments to assess current and create new student success offerings and expand existing programs. The Director will lead efforts to identify national educational needs and trends in academic support programming and design responsive services exemplifying a strong commitment to student success. The Director will supervise a team in the Tutoring Services Department including the Center for Learning and Math Solution. Additionally, the Director will liaise and work collaboratively with areas such as marketing, budgeting, and operations related to student success, ensuring programs meet the needs of diverse populations while aligning with the college's mission and goals.
Essential Functions
30% - Supervise and provide leadership for academic support services staff, including tutors, coordinators, and other related personnel, by fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes professional growth and development; establish clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations; ensure effective recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training to maintain a highly skilled and student-centered team; develop schedules, allocate resources, and manage workloads to meet the diverse academic support needs of students; and implement best practices to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery aligned with institutional goals..
20% - Develop and implement a comprehensive student success strategy aligned with the institution's mission, vision, and goals; Lead initiatives aimed at improving retention, persistence, and graduation rates; Use data-driven decision-making to assess and enhance the effectiveness of student success programs.
20% - Develop and monitor strategies to improve student retention, including first-year experience (FYE) programs, academic success workshops, and student engagement initiatives; Manage early alert systems to identify and provide targeted interventions for at-risk students.
15% - Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative academic student success programs that integrate both in-class and out-of-class experiences. Collaborate with faculty and student services to design initiatives that enhance student success and retention. Track progress through data-driven analysis and ensure programs evolve based on feedback and student outcomes.
15% - Collect and analyze feedback from students, faculty, and staff to evaluate the customer service attitudes towards success initiatives. Use data to continuously refine and enhance program strategies based on this feedback. Prepare regular reports on program success, challenges, and future opportunities for improvement based on students, faculty, and staff attitudes
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, organizational development or directly related field and four years of experience in areas such as planning, developing, implementing, administering, and evaluating instructional services programs which experience includes two years of management and supervisory experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
Desired Qualifications
- Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, organizational development or directly related field
- Four (4) years leading and/or delivering academic support services, such as tutoring, study skills workshops, writing centers, etc.
- Three (3) years of experience working in a community college setting.
- Three (3) years of experience developing new programs and/or initiatives.
- Three (3) years of experience supervising a combination of full and part-time employees.
- One (1) year of experience with budget oversight.
Special Working Conditions
