Overview

The CAES' Advanced Program Development (APD) line of business is seeking an Engineering Intern that will work on new product development and improvement projects that support a multi-disciplinary team. This includes the design, analysis, testing, debug, coding, documentation, and all aspects of engineering work. Engineers are mentored by, and work with, other engineers on everything from hardware, firmware, and software. Daily tasks will focus on analog, digital, RF, and mixed signal circuit boards, including work within digital signal processing, FPGA design, logic & power design, microelectronics, instrumentation, artificial intelligence, software development, and other areas of electronics engineering. Engineers must be comfortable learning all phases of product development from inception through production (architecture, design, programming, debug, test, and documentation); and receiving cross-training to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the needs of the customer, project, and team they are working with.


Responsibilities

  • Performs basic tooling design and implementation
  • Analyzes, investigates, and resolves problems; tests, tunes, debugs, modifies, and optimizes electronic circuits and components to meet specification requirements and manufacturing producibility requirements
  • Designs, reviews, and manipulates circuit schematics and layouts
  • Creates and checks formal engineering documentation; develops reports, records, diagrams, and charts
  • Works collaboratively with others to execute hardware builds and testing
  • Provides engineering support of existing products
  • Supports engineering initiatives under the direction of more advanced engineers

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Currently enrolled in and working toward a Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical, Physics, Computer Science, or Mathematics
  • Knowledge of at least one and a desire to learn several of the following areas: hardware, firmware, software, RF, and other areas of electrical engineering
  • Productive and effective communication skills including the ability to read, interpret and comprehend complex written technical publications (schematics, assembly drawings and parts lists); and communicates with integrity and respect
  • Takes ownership of assignments and demonstrates full accountability for successes/setbacks; moves between working independently and as a team member
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and assignments
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by US export laws. In order to be eligible for this position, you must be a "US Person" under US export laws (or eligible for approval under a U.S. Government export license)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance

Preferred:

  • Ability to think abstractly and separate complex ideas into simple elements
  • Knowledge of software, firmware, or electronics including power and RF theory
  • Experience with or exposure to, RF/Microwave parameters & test procedures; one or more software programs such as Linux, LabView, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Altium, 2D/3D CAD, Quartus, or LTSpice; coding/programming such as MATLAB, Python, JavaScript, C, C++
  • Understanding of electronic product design (PCB, layout, software, firmware (HDL))
  • Experience with test equipment (oscilloscopes/meters/logic analyzer)
  • Knowledge of high-speed digital and/or analog design

Salary Range: $22 - $30 per hour. Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
