Overview

CAES by Honeywell is seeking a Designer IV/V to perform independent layouts of complex to highly complex integrated microwave assemblies and electronic subsystems. Create and revise detailed fabrication, assembly and installation drawings from layouts, and engineering change orders. Uses established company design guidelines and industry standards utilizing computer-aided design tools such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks. Adheres to established engineering drafting practices. Contributes to design modifications to improve the quality of products or to facilitate efficient manufacturing and test of products.


Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and DUTIES:

  • Generate layouts and drawings from engineering inputs (schematics, block diagrams, flow charts, outline drawings).
  • Interact and collaborate with electrical engineers, manufacturing and process engineers, machinists, technicians, assemblers, design drafters and others on engineering assignments
  • Incorporate engineering change orders to designs, including hybrid designs, using AutoCAD, PADS or SolidWorks.
  • Prepare parts lists and enter parts list data into the PLM system.
  • Determine mechanical assembly approaches with engineering, manufacturing and production.
  • Collaborate with engineers in the use of and validation of design standards during design.
  • Create, check and release engineering documentation via Engineering Change Orders.
  • Recommends selection of component hardware, tooling, and metal.
  • Contributes to design modifications to improve the quality of products or to facilitate manufacturing operations.
  • Actively complies with all company safety policies and practices.
  • Improves and maintains 5S in your area; make suggestions for improvement.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Associate's degree in Drafting or equivalent experience
  • Experience with schematics and electro-mechanical design.
  • Four (4) or more years of related experience designing high frequency products that utilize multilayer SMT along with chip and wire design approaches.
  • A strong knowledge of computer-aided design software suites including AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • The ability to create a layout from a schematic, block diagram and product outline that complies with internal design guidelines.
  • The ability to perform highly complex work that requires good design judgment and focus on details.
  • The ability to use common MS Office software tools and Enterprise-wide information systems, such as SAP, Oracle, Agile or Teamcenter to perform daily job functions
  • A strong knowledge of electronics packaging.
  • Knowledge of MIC (Microwave Integrated Circuit) design, packaging and processes.
  • An understanding of metal fabrication, electronics assembly and electronics manufacturing flow.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of ASME Y14.5 and 14.100 along with related drawing specifications.
  • Expertise in dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • A strong working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • The ability to review and compare engineering inputs and drawings to identify inconsistencies and determine corrections as needed.
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by US export laws. In order to be eligible for this position, you must be a US person under US export laws or, eligible for approval for a U.S. Government export license. A US Person includes a US citizen, lawful Permanent Resident, refugee or asylee.

Preferred:

  • Six (6) or more years of related experience designing high frequency products that utilize multilayer SMT along with chip and wire design approaches.
  • SolidWorks CAD Design Professional (CSWP) certification.
  • Experience in microwave and/or millimeter wave electronics packaging design
  • Experience with implementing high frequency, multilayer CCA (Circuit Card Assembly) designs in higher level packages.
  • Knowledge of IPC (Institute for Interconnecting and Packaging Electronic Circuits) standards associated with PCB design, fabrication and assembly along with IPC CID certification is a plus.
  • A strong knowledge of DFA (Design For Assembly), DFM (Design For Manufacturing) and DFT (Design For Test)
  • A working knowledge of high frequency electronic products including MIC and CCA assembly processes
  • The ability to work effectively as a part of an integrated design team.
  • The ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities and work assignments.
  • The ability to present information and speak effectively.
  • The ability to communicate and interact with senior staff and colleagues.
  • The ability to remain engaged, proactive and positive regardless of circumstances.
  • To be fully accountable to all job assignments.

Hourly Range: $39.31 - $64.98 hourly (San Diego, CA)

Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
