Job Purpose

The HR Communications Principal Specialist plays a strategic leadership role in developing and implementing comprehensive communication programs to support HR initiatives, drive employee engagement, and foster a positive workplace culture. This role involves collaborating with HR leadership, executives, and cross-functional teams to ensure consistent and clear messaging that aligns with the company's values, goals, business objectives, and HR strategies.

The ideal candidate for the Principal of HR Communications is a seasoned, strategic communications professional with a deep understanding of both corporate and HR communication landscapes. They possess the ability to think holistically while diving into the nuances of employee engagement, leadership communication, and organizational culture transformation. Key Accountabilities

Leads internal HR communications: plans, develops & delivers the communications strategies for HR that advance Honda's associate value proposition, contribute to behavior change and/or increase employee engagement.



  • Strategic Communication Planning: Develop and execute internal communication strategies that effectively communicate HR policies, programs, and initiatives across the organization. Create detailed communication plans, timelines, and resource allocation.
  • Content Development: Create and/or oversee the production of content such as memos, presentations, newsletters, videos, and other communication materials.
  • Employee Engagement: support communication initiatives that promote employee engagement, well-being, and retention through compelling and consistent messaging.
  • Analytics and Measurement: Track the effectiveness of communication strategies through surveys, engagement data, and other metrics. Continuously improve communication efforts based on insights and feedback.
  • Technical Expertise: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in communication strategy and planning, and incorporate relevant insights into strategy development and execution.



Provides communications expertise: apply advanced professional and technical communication expertise to HR initiatives including drafting, reviewing, and editing customized human resources communications in plain language for targeted audiences using appropriate media. Ensures clarity regarding deliverables, deadlines, and resources needs.



  • Executive Advising: Collaborate with senior leadership to align communication strategies with organizational goals, values, and priorities. Provide strategic communications advice to senior leaders and HR executives.
  • Leadership Communication: Coach and support leaders on effective communication practices and provide tools and resources to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other Divisions and Business Units, to ensure message consistency across all channels.
  • Crisis Communications: Act as the lead for HR-related crisis communication, ensuring that the right information is delivered timely and accurately during emergencies or sensitive situations



Coordinates appropriate schedules and reviews (customer, compliance, technical, editorial, vendor, etc.) to ensure accuracy and effectiveness of materials and supports resolution for any issues raised during the review process.



  • Lead cross-functional planning sessions to gather input, foster collaboration, and generate innovative ideas for communication initiatives.
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of communication plans, including messaging frameworks, content calendars, and channel strategies



Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in strategic communications, journalism, human resources or related field of study
  • 10+ years of experience in corporate communications, human resources communications, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience managing large project
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven experience in developing and executing strategic communication plans for large, complex organizations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Proficiency with communication tools and platforms, including intranet systems, employee engagement platforms, and content management systems.
