Position Summary |
UNC-Chapel Hill's School of Medicine is seeking a dynamic Social Media Specialist to lead and elevate its social media presence. This role is ideal for a communications professional passionate about shaping the
UNC School of Medicine's digital strategy. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in copywriting and editing, a sharp eye for social media trends, and the ability to navigate how evolving news cycles impact our messaging. The incumbent will be responsible for creating and amplifying compelling written and visual content including reels and shorts while coordinating posts across multiple platforms.
We're seeking a highly organized individual with a keen attention to detail, who is dedicated to continuously analyzing and enhancing the performance of our social media channels. Reporting to the Director of Content and Patient Communications, the Social Media Specialist will produce engaging content for the University's primary channels, help plan and execute strategic social media campaigns, and manage the School's online reputation by monitoring relevant news and trends. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining the School's distinctive brand voice and tone across all social platforms.
The incumbent will also provide ongoing reports on the performance of social media posts and projects, assist in
SEO and other data analysis as needed. The incumbent will need to be available for on-call rotation among social media team members to quickly address urgent complaints or inquiries by contacting appropriate stakeholders as needed. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Demonstrated knowledge of social media channels such as Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and more. In addition, the Social Media Specialist should have copywriting and editing experience for a brand, ability to create digital content (reels/shorts), experience providing detailed media data reports, extracting data from various social media platforms directly and analyzing for content improvement, an interest in staying current on social media trends, and an ability and eagerness to work with others in School of Medicine Communications and across campus. Intermediate level skill or above with Adobe Creative Suite and the proven ability to edit basic videos, photographs, and short animations. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Preferred candidate will have knowledge in journalism, marketing, advertising, public relations, communications, or related field.
Experience and knowledge of AP Style is preferred. |
