Overview
We are seeking three experienced Mandarin instructors to join our Startalk Program team. The instructors will be responsible for delivering high-quality online Mandarin language instruction to high school students in the Startalk Program. The position is on-site and instructor will teach at USU Sale Lake Center, Taylorsville, Utah.

USU Startalk is an NSA-funded program. You must meet the following requirements:

Contract Period and hours: 02/01/2025~07/31/2025 $3375 in total Project based wedges

Curriculum modification $1125 (use 2024 USU Startalk lesson to modify, submit daily lesson plan using STARTALK template)

Meeting/ Training/ Instruction $2250

Responsibilities
This on-site instructor position is in-person, not remote work. Applicants must be able to teach in-person in Taylorsville, Utah during the camp dates: July 07 - July 11, 2025. The main tasks include, but not limited to:

Deliver in-person Instruction during 07/07/2025~07/11/2025 in Taylorsville, UT (half day in-person meeting on 07/03/2025)
Prior task: curriculum design, meeting and training / Post task: submit a camp report
Task during the camp: 5 days of class preparation (1 hours), lecturing (5 hours), assignment grading (1 hour) and cultural activity assistance (1 hour)
Conduct language instruction for grade 8-13 students in accordance with the program curriculum.
Provide engaging and interactive lessons that align with ACTFL language proficiency standards and Startalk 6 principals.
Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages active participation.
Modify high effective and engaged online curriculum and assessment with activities, games, projects, etc. to increase students' engagement and motivation.
Modify and design curriculum materials that align with program goals and objectives (AI & Technology)
Deliver comprehensive and structured lessons to prepare students for the residential camp.
Proficient with ChatGPT, GoFormative, Nearpod, google Classroom
Incorporate authentic materials and technology tools to enhance language acquisition.
Grade assignments, provide feedback, and assess student performance throughout the program.
Effective communication with students, parents and colleagues, be a team player
Enjoy group activities with students
Any talent can apply to the camp with high school students activities will be a plus

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident
  • The candidate or the candidate's employer cannot be affiliated with Confucius Institution or any Chinese government grant.
  • Proficient in teaching intermediate and advanced levels of Mandarin Chinese. Strong understanding of ACTFL language proficiency standards
  • Fast learner at Ed tech applications and tools
  • At least 5 years of 8 -14 grade school teacher experience
  • Job offer is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.
  • The candidate or the candidate's employer cannot be affiliated with Confucius Institution or any Chinese government grant.

Preferred Requirements
  • Experience with AI tools in clasroom settings
  • Expertise in Google Classroom, Google Workspace

The environment and physical requirements may change depending on the specific function of the work each department performs. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes.
