Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The overall mission of the Department of Psychology is to provide students with competitive and comprehensive instruction to prepare for a range of post-baccalaureate educational and career opportunities. We serve a culturally, racially, and economically diverse population of civilian and military learners from southeastern North Carolina, around the nation, and across the globe. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in psychology with options for concentrations in health psychology and work and organizational psychology through campus-based and online programs, and an online graduate program that includes Master of Arts degree in general psychology, and graduate certificates in behavioral research and professional psychology.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Department of Psychology has a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor rank. The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in Psychology from an accredited institution, an active research program with opportunities for student involvement, a solid commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching in a multicultural environment, the ability to mentor student research, a record of published research and the ability to bring research opportunities to the department.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Earned doctorate degree in psychology from an accredited university.
Must have a strong commitment to undergraduate/graduate education, evidence of teaching ability, evidence of scholarly endeavors, and a record of professional and community involvement/service and can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and service.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
Knowledge:
Disciplinary Expertise: In-depth knowledge of current theories, models, and best practices in Psychology.
Educational Technology: Proficiency in using educational technology, digital tools, and online learning platforms to enhance teaching and support student engagement and learning outcomes.
Skills:
Teaching and Instruction: Ability to deliver effective and engaging instruction to criminal justice majors, employing various instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs and cultivate a collaborative and nurturing learning atmosphere.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex concepts clearly and interact with students, colleagues, and community stakeholders effectively.
Critical Thinking: Capacity to analyze challenges, identify innovative solutions, and make informed decisions on psychology-related issues.
Abilities:
Collaboration: Willingness and ability to collaborate with colleagues, community partners, and stakeholders to enhance the profession of Psychology and advance the goals of FSU's Department of Psychology and College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust instructional approaches and strategies based on individual student needs and changing educational trends and technologies.
Commitment to Continuous Learning: A dedication to staying informed about current research, emerging trends, and developments in Psychology.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with online course development and instruction in Canvas or other online learning management systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to mentor students.
