I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Provides group and individual treatment to restore and/or maximize physical, psychosocial, cognitive, and daily living skills for physically, cognitively, developmentally and/or functionally disabled patient populations, including infants and children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, and frail elderly, inpatient or outpatient as assigned.
2. Educates patient in compensatory strategies and life management skills to promote wellness and prevent health decompensation.
3. Educates patient, family and other caregivers in therapy program and goals.
4. Participates in patient care meetings, collaborates with team members, assists with discharge planning.
5. Assesses effect of treatment rendered and communicates recommendation for program changes to supervising therapist.
6. Documents care provided in medical record, completes therapy billing.
7. Completes department statistics. Assists in maintenance of orderly, safe and efficient working environment. Assists with inventory and purchasing as assigned.
8. Participates in program development and quality improvement teams.
9. Delegates appropriate tasks to rehabilitation aides, volunteers and students, over seeing quality of care and supervising performance. Provides student supervision according to practice guidelines.

1. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
2. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
3. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
4. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
5. Respects diverse views and approaches demonstrates Standards of Respect and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
6. Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
7. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

All responsibilities are essential job functions.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Associates degree in Occupational Therapy from accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant school.
2. Current license to practice Occupational Therapy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
3. Successful completion of Board Examination of COTA.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies, including age-specific competencies, and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Work is considered medium. Position requires work indoors in a patient care environment.
