I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Makes daily tours of all campus grounds to assure safety for patients, visitors and employees. Addresses all issues or brings them to the attention of the Director of Facilities for assistance.
2. Makes daily rounds at all entrances and off-site properties for cleanup and rubbish removal.
3. Maintains roadways, walkways, fencing and gates as necessary.
4. Maintains the appearance of the plant grounds by cutting, trimming or weeding grass, shrubs, trees and ornamental planting beds.
5. Digs and/or refills ditches and holes.
6. Removes snow and ice from roadways, walkways, buildings and structures as necessary. Assures that there is no snow or debris blocking egress doors as per The Joint Commission (TJC) standard.
7. Oversees and assures that preventive maintenance is up to date for all grounds equipment and machinery, snow removal equipment and tools as necessary to perform assigned work. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, tractors, golf cart, mowers, power washers, chain saw, snow blower, weed whacker, shovels, etc.
8. Obtains necessary parts through established engineering purchasing procedures.
9. Schedules day-to-day activities of the grounds department and keeps accurate documentation of weather conditions and work in daily calendar.
10. Designs and recommends planting enhancements to the campus grounds.
11. Takes call as needed in winter months.
12. When working as a maintenance mechanic follows acceptable maintenance practices.
13. Uses work time efficiently, works in a positive manner, is a team worker. Does all work from start to finish with a "gold standard".

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Massachusetts Driver's license.

Preferred:
1. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. The ability to provide minor preventive maintenance on grounds equipment.
2. Knowledge of horticulture and fertilization standards.
3. The ability to collaborate with co-workers and contracted vendors effectively.
4. Ability to read, write and speak clearly in English.
5. 3-5 years experience of related building and grounds or equivalent combination of education/training.
